There's
nothing like taking a horse ride through the mountains. I have actually
never been on a horse before, but I think my first time was definitely
in the right place. Middle Creek Stables offers rides of 30 minutes for
$9.95, $15 for 45 minutes, $19.95 for 60 minutes. The listed prices are
two or three dollars cheaper but when I called for information they said
they would give us the "discounted" price that they offer with
the coupon. When I explained I didn't have a coupon they told me that
was okay because they had extras.
We chose an hour long ride because we wanted to make sure we saw some
good things. Our group consisted of three different families and two couples
with no children. It was about a total of 7 children and 10 adults. Most
of the children looked about 6 or older and rode their own horse. One
little guy rode double with his father.
They
have everyone stand up on one of three platforms and bring the horses
out one at a time. They seat the children smallest to oldest. Then all
the women got horses, and finally all the men. We had Nox and Sarge, and
I am not sure who the children ended up with. After we were all seated
on our horse they gave us a few instructions. If you want them to stop,
pull back on the reigns slowly but firmly and don't let them eat any grass.
Apparently if they start munching on grass they will want to keep stopping
to eat and you will be wrestling with them the entire time. Also, they
told us not to let our horse get too close to the one in front of them
because horses don't like to be tailed.
Sarge seemed experienced and all I did was let him take his time. He
got aggravated at Nox a few times because Nox wanted to move faster then
Sarge, so we finally let Nox pass. All the horses seemed gentle and no
one had any problems. The leader took all the children up front with him
so we could watch over them and help if they had any problems. None really
did.
The
ride was really beautiful and it took us up a mountain, past a small lake
and up high enough so we had some great views of the mountains. Sometimes
when we would turn a corner to round the mountain the horse would decide
he was too far behind and take off on a little sprint. This is a bit scary
I suppose but it was actually one of the funniest feeling I had in a long
time. I couldn't stop laughing!
Everyone at the stable was very nice and helpful. Seeing as how our group
had most of the horses at the stable, I can say that they have a good
selection of gentle horses. No one had any problems other than having
to pull the horse's head up now and then when they wanted to eat some
grass.
